CRS is very pleased to announce that Prof. Luann Good Gingrich has been appointed as CRS Associate Director for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Prof. Good Gingrich is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work and Scholar in Residence at the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University in Toronto, Canada. Her research investigates the interface of migration and border studies, social welfare and human services, and social inclusion. Through tracing official policies and practices to the everyday lives of immigrant groups, refugee newcomers and migrant workers in Canada, and Central American migrant women in southern Mexico, her analyses have demonstrated the paradoxical outcomes of marketized social policies and human services as they function to make and organize social groups defined by race, ethnicity, nation, religion, gender and age. The complex relationships between the state, “mainstream” society, and culturally and religiously distinct communities have been central in both her professional practice and academic work. She integrates theory development, reflexive qualitative research, quantitative secondary data analysis, and critical pedagogy to encourage curiosity and imagination for meaningful and practical conceptions of social inclusion. She is the author of Out of Place: Social Exclusion and Mennonite Migrants in Canada (2016); co-editor of Transnational Social Policy: Social Welfare in a World on the Move (2017); and has published in journals such as the International Journal of Migration and Border Studies, International Migration, Social Policy & Administration, Refugee Survey Quarterly, and Journal of Progressive Human Services.
